Caroline "Tula" Cossey was born with male genitalia but went on to become a beautiful woman with a successful modeling career.

My Story is Tula's candid thought-provoking, enlightening, humorous, heart wrenching, and motivational account of her struggles her troubled childhood being bullied and taunted in East Anglia, her dreams of becoming a woman, the operations that liberated her sexually, and the journey from showgirl to James Bond girl to top international model.

At the height of her career, Tula had appeared in Vogue, Cosmopolitan and Harper's Bazaar, and graced the covers of many top fashion and beauty magazines and calendars around the world. She was also the first transgendered model to appear in Playboy magazine and was featured on the cover of multiple international editions.

After she was twice exposed by the News of the World, Tula's career plummeted and her marriage to multi-millionaire Elias Fattal was annulled. In the spring of 1989, she was forced to make a unique appeal to the European Commission of Human Rights she was fighting for the legal validation of her marriage as a female and the right to have her birth certificate amended after gender reassignment surgery.

Her activism led to appearances on numerous television and radio shows with people such as Phil Donahue, Joan Rivers, Howard Stern, Geraldo Rivera, Montel Williams, Maury Povich, Arsenio Hall, Neal Boortz, David Frost, Gloria Hunniford, and Jonathan Ross. She has also often been featured on Entertainment Tonight, had a day named after her in Atlanta, Georgia, and was given the key to the city.

My Story is not just the true account of Tula's battle for the body she needed to survive and her struggle for the legal rights she deserved as a woman. It's above all an inspirational exemplification of the triumph of the human spirit over seemingly insurmountable adversity and suffering.

My Story (Audible Audio Edition) Caroline Cossey Katherine Fenton Books

Well-written and gripping story. I really enjoyed it. I was prepared to give it five stars until I reached the end. The Epilogue is dated 1990. A LOT has happened to transgender law in Europe since 1990. A lot has happened to Caroline. I bought this book expecting to see a 2105 update from someone whose life has meant a lot to me. Even a 10-page update at the end would have helped. I felt more than a little cheated.
Ms. Cossey vividly captures her life through 1990. If you are interested in the story of a trans woman who courageously follows her identity, this is a great read. The parts of this book that I found most helpful were her descriptions of her relationships with her blue-collar parents and her siblings and her exploration of what it was like to date and fall in love with men. Her father offers a much-needed roll model.
Very heartfelt. Her lively career in dance and modelling was a fun diversion as well. Given that her relationships -- as of 1990 -- had not developed as she hoped, you won't find any interesting insights about transgender marriages and long-term relationships. Not a fault of the book, but worth noting for buyers who are looking for this.

My Story (Audible Audio Edition) Caroline Cossey Katherine Fenton Books Reviews

This book goes deep into the life of Caroline Cossey (Supermodel Tula) and clearly illustrates how difficult it was for her to live an authentic life as the woman she was born to be. Truly inspirational!
I would give this book a five out of five stars. It is very compelling and keeps your interest continually. The book, "My Story," is well written. This book does much to educate people about the trans condition and does much towards increasing understanding with the general population about a condition that many are ignorant about. I believe that Ms. Cossey's book should be required reading as early as junior high school, it may actually be a life saver for young people who suffer from this condition.
I recommend this book to anyone who is even the least bit curious about what it's like to feel you were born in the wrong body. The story Caroline Cossey tells in her own words is riveting and I could hardly put down the book.
I understand the journey of a transsexual in a way that I could not have without this book.
The word I would use to describe this memoir is "amazing!"
One of the most moving and riveting book I have ever read. Caroline's courage and determination make her one of the most unique and interesting people of the century. Once you start, you won't be able to put this book down! As a Catholic Priest, I totally support and endorse Caroline Cossey. The world needs more heroines like her.
Gender Identity Disorder is such an important and relative topic. This beautiful woman wrote a wonderful book that was written in a non exploitive and interesting way that educated the reader in a fashion that was so subtle that you could not put the book down. You felt as though you were standing right beside her feeling her pain, frustrations, sorrows and joys.
I was waiting for so long to see this book on ! I hope that one day I will have it as a hardcover edition in my library, too. I love it and I want to read the first book - "I am a woman", too.
If you have any questions about the transsexual people this autobiography is one good starting point to start with. Caroline is one normal girl, born in the wrong body and this is not a fantasy story! Nooo, it is a real life experience shared, so honest and so clear... Her traveling to several different locations, her physical transformation and private life are exposed in very kind and gentle way.
I WANT "I AM A WOMAN" FOR KINDLE, PLS! D
Absolutely a wonderful read of a real person's transformation into who she really is. Makes one see what absolute dedication to a dream can create. I applaud Caroline for her resilience, perseverance and self-image thru all the trials and tribulations she faced as a child and as an adult pioneer of transgender rights. She is an absolute wonderful human being. I feel 100% the opposite for the absolute jerk she was involved with at the end of the book. I will not say more and destroy a beautifully written story. I would give anything to sit down with Caroline over a mai tai on a Hawaii beach and listen to more of her story. I was so impressed with this story, I purchased her first book as well for $98.00. learning her story is well worth the price. Best wishes forever to Caroline Cossey, a true pioneer.
